Thriving Nexus

Waterfront urban development

Year
2025

A phased strategy for a working waterfront, built from its own hydrology and history rather than imposed on top of them. Thriving Nexus reads the site through layered urban analysis — historical settlement patterns, tidal and hydrological behavior, existing infrastructure — before proposing a sequence of interventions: a tide-walk along the water's edge, a reclaimed rail-side market, a converted fort reused as public park.

Each phase is legible on its own and cumulative in effect, moving the site from a return to public use toward a fully reoccupied civic waterfront. The project argues, at the scale of a district, the same position Unearthing Roots argues at the scale of a landscape: that a working site's history is material to design, not background to it.

This research highlights the effects of climatic shift on the native aquatic life, specifically fish and plant species, that thrive within the cove and becomes the impetus to establish a connection between these life forms and the human population within the region.
The Banks' Tide-walk
An experiential journey through the Cove's aquatic realm.
